Abstract Art

Recently Eden Exposed Photography has been dabbling in something a bit different to our usual Conceptual Photo Shoots and Dramatic Landscapes...

Abstract wall art was on the agenda one rainy and miserable Wednesday in March.

After watching a tutorial by Gavin Hoey online, I was on my way to capturing a splash of water!

I had the frame from my portable background stand set up over the table to which I attached a sandwich bag full of water.

I filled a tin full of water and placed it underneath the bag of water. (it took me a while to find a suitable water holder - I started with a big glass bowl, but when the flash went off you could see pyrex written on the bottom - not a good look! so I settled with a black square cake tin which worked a treat. Although I have since brought a big black paint tray which is what was used on the tutorial - unfortunately I didn't have one to hand at the time.)

I set the flash up pointing towards the card that I had placed at the back of the water tin. Pricked a hole in the water bag and the drops came out in a nice continuous flow.

With the camera on a tripod and set to manual focus (focused automatically once the drops started then switched to manual) it was just a case of timing as the drops fell into the water and pressing the shutter!

I used different colored pieces of card in the background to add a bit of drama into the water and was really pleased with the final images.

All of these water images have just come straight off the camera without needing any editing.

It was a very successful day and I must say, I'm looking forward to doing some more water images, I found it very addictive!

I will be uploading them to Stock as well, which as I mentioned in a previous blog, we have been building up our stock portfolio this year and its going well!
