Eden Exposed Photography Landscapes

Landscape photography is my first love in photography.

Its what inspired me to pick up a camera and give it a go - its what inspired me to start up Eden Exposed Photography

When I see a great landscape image it affects me and makes me want to go there and that is what I wanted to hopefully achieve with my images.
I want the feeling of a calming seascape or rolling waves to convey through the image and into the person looking at it.

I absolutely love the sea and one of my favorite locations for landscape photography is Horsey Beach in Norfolk.
We have been there numerous times, often before the sun rises so we can catch the pre dawn and the gorgeous sun coming over the horizon.
This image is from one of the best days we have had there:

Another great location we have been back to a few times is Durdle Door in Dorset.
Even in the summer the beach is only busy at one end, so if you stroll down to the end of the beach, you will more than likely have it to yourself (unless of course I am there!)

I love being able to create great landscape photos.
There's something amazing about being on the beach at dawn before anyone else you know is even awake.
Unfortunately for us, to get to a nice beach we have at least a 2 -3 hour drive so to catch a sunrise, depending on the time of year we have to be up and raring to go by 3am!

The image below was taken on Durdle Door beach, a slow shutter was used to create the milky waves spilling gracefully onto the shore.

Me and my partner love to travel, in fact it was after a round the world trip when we were 21 that my photography passion really began to show and since then, its all been about photography!

Unfortunately I didn't have a decent camera on the round the world trip, and I was only when we returned we realised how much beauty there is in the world.
Although, if i had have the camera equipment I have now, we would probably still be traveling and not yet come home!

It was when we were on a weekend break to Rome that we came up with Eden Exposed.
It was actually just after we were walking back to the hotel after taking this photo of the Vatican:

Sometimes simplicity is best when photographing landscapes.

Last year we went on holiday to America and this is one of my favorite images from the trip, taken at Death Valley in California.

The sparse landscape suddenly transforms into these huge sand dunes.

We tend to put photographing landscapes on the back burner as our conceptual portraits take up most of our time, However as soon as we have a spare day we jump in the car and head off somewhere to capture landscapes.
This is how we are planning to spend our Saturday this weekend :-)

Location, Location, Location

When we plan a photo shoot, usually one of the first things we consider is the location of where the shoot will take place.

Living where we do in Essex, we are really lucky to have our home back right onto the forest.
So we have used this to our advantage and done quite a few conceptual photo shoots in the surrounding woodlands.

One of the first photo shoots we done when we first moved in:

The above image was inspired solely by the my little pony dress!

Last summer we were walking through the forest and we saw an area that had been coppiced and all that was left was the stumps of the trees that were once there.

As soon as I saw it I knew I had to do a photo shoot there!

One of the more recent photo shoots we have done in the forest was entitled 'forest fairies' quite self explanatory really!

Commissioned by a group of 5 girlfriends we transformed them into forest fairies which was a lot of fun to do.

One of the images from the day below:

One of my favorite photos shoots to date took place in the forest.
Done on a freezing cold day at the end of January, we took to the forest armed with our camera gear, flashes, a coat carrying/leaf throwing assistant and a willing model and this is the result:

We had lots of fun doing this photo shoot, braving the mud, most of the leaves landed where they should have done, apart from the stray few that ended up in the models mouth!

Being so close to home meant that we didn't have far to go to warm up from the brisk January weather with Hot Chocolates and freshly made carrot cake!

We're always on the lookout for new locations, we've found some great ones from deserted beaches to abandoned war shelters.
They all offer us something a bit different and special which transfers into our images!

Eden Exposed Weddings

Eden Exposed Photography is delving into the world of Wedding Photography!

Since doing our first full wedding at the start of the year we have had lots of interest come from it and are now booked up for most of the summer with weddings!

Our first experience was incredibly rushed and literally done as we went along, seeing as we didn't even know where we were going until 11pm the night before!

The bride and groom were very laid back and made our first wedding experience quite an enjoyable one, even with all the stress that goes with shooting a wedding.

We injected a bit of our trademark lighting effects into the images using a wireless flash.
The bride wasn't ready for her photos until 15 mins before she had to leave for the church, so we worked with the short time we had!

We had to leave for the church with the bride, in fact we were driving around the streets of London in a black taxi trying to beat her to the church!
Thankfully we made it!

After the ceremony we took to the streets of London at the request of the newly married couple and shot pictures of them around the iconic Harrods building in the falling snow.

The most important object of our job was fulfilled and the bride and groom were thrilled with their wedding images.
It made all the stress of the day 100% worth it and another Eden Exposed job well done!

Derelict and Disused

Derelict and Disused = Photographers Playground!

On our never ending search for different locations that can be used for photo shoots we came across a great building in North Weald.
In its day it was built as a redoubt, to protect the soldiers outside the line of defense and to store ammunition.
Built at the end of the 19th century, it has now been left to ruin and with the lack of soldiers in the barracks it provides some great backdrops for a photographic shoot!

This photo shoot, although it may look nice and sunny outside was actually done on a freezing December afternoon, the previous day had brought us a blizzard which you will see in the next image!

The model in these images commissioned Edenexposed to do this conceptual photo shoot for her birthday and was extremely good with dealing with the cold weather.
It was fine for me wrapped up in my gloves and scarf but she had to de robe for each shot and reveal the lovely strapless prom dress in zero temperatures!

This image we named 'Baring the Blizzard' which is very apt!
The lack of a roof on the building meant the whole 'inside' was carpeted with fresh snow, so of course we had to make her sit in it!

Utilising the grounds around the building we took an electrical cable reel from down near the soldiers barracks which involves quite a steep incline up to the building plus all the snow and fallen leaves, it proved quite a challenge. Well i say we - it was my partners job to haul it up the hill! haha
A job well done though and this is the finished image from all the hard work:

And were not arsonists - the flames were added using photo shop!

We will be going back through the hole in the fence soon as we have planned another shoot at this location, this time bringing the building back to its original purpose and doing a soldier/captive type conceptual photo shoot.

So stay tuned for those images!

Stock Mania

2010 for me is a year to make things happen, both personally and professionally.

Its started off well, we have a holiday booked to the South of France and 3 weeks ago we became the proud 'parents' of our little dog Eden the beautiful Cocker Spaniel/Mascot!

We had been wanting a dog for a long time but kept putting it off - there was always a reason not to get one - until one Sunday afternoon, I found her advertised and on the Monday she was snuggled up in our living room!

Just so you can see how cute she is:

Now whats all this got to do with Stock Photography?!

Well, last year we set up an iStock account and sporadically updated it and adding a few images on here and there, there was always something else to do and other things to work on and we didn't really bother with it - that is until 2010 came along, remember, the year to make things happen!

We've seen the earning potential in Stock Photography and I've been concentrating on it majorly the last couple of months, building up a decent portfolio so hopefully it will pick up and all the effort will pay off one day!

An example of our Stock Photography:

So far this year we have had 81 images accepted into our iStock Portfolio, which shows how serious i'm getting with it, for the whole of 2009 we only had 69 images accepted!

In Stock Photography terms this is quite a small quantity, but for now, were building it up nicely and hopefully in the months to come we will have more and more accepted!

Now I can see there is something to gain from Stock Photography the only way is up - and I'm getting a bit addicted to taking stock shots!

A couple of images from our iStock Portfolio:

So the moral of this blog...Don't put things off, make things happen for yourself, no one else will!
